![]() Note that AppData directory is hidden, so you may need to check show “Hidden items” in the View tab in File Manager. If Audacity shows you an error message when trying to record or playback audio start using Transport > Rescan Audio Devices to update the list of devices. On Windows, the directory is located at C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\audacity. So another desperation move would be to rename your “audacity” configuration directory to see if something hiding in there is causing the problem. Recently, some other folks on Mac were having difficulties with some plugin causing similar symptoms. If this fixes the problem, it is a simple matter to re-enable them one-by-one to find the culprit. One thing to try is to eliminate and/or disable all of your USB and bluetooth audio devices, and then re-start Audacity. When this happens Audacity just gives up and can’t seem to find any devices at all. Sometimes, Audacity gets stuck with a particular I/O device, for example, bluetooth headphones. If the above workaround doesn’t help you fix Audacity not working on Windows 11, then consider changing your Audacity app’s project sample rate, as it could be possible it isn’t configured properly. So I assume your issue is only with Audacity and that you are able to play mp3 files through VLC or some other audio player… After enabling the above options, reopen Audacity to check if the recording is working now. The first error message occurs at startup when I launch Audacity, which reads: “Error Initializing Audio. Try changing the audio host, playback device and the project sample rate.” The second error message occurs when I try to play an MP3 file, which reads: “Error Opening Sound Device. Do you know what the reason could be for why I’m unable to use Audacity to play the MP3 files?Īs I previously mentioned, I’m receiving 2 error messages. The problem is that I’m unable to play the file. If I try to use Audacity to open an MP3 file, a message appears that says that the file is being imported, and I can then see on the screen that the file has been successfully imported. I’m only trying to use Audacity to edit MP3 files that I’ve downloaded from YouTube. I don’t have a recording device, or any other analog audio input. Right now it is a hit and miss for me I either get to read the device for some use out of it our I just hang it up and go another route in converting my tapes over to digital files.ONA18HO015C (High Definition Audio Device) is the speakers in my monitor. Thank for your help but I have already been at this point. If you got error Error opening sound device while using Audacity to record sound, don’t worry. What tapes I got to record and save from my collection they great but I am not sure if I am able to use the app until this issue get resolved because I troubled shot from cable to reading my device to everyone else advice on here and I about to bag trying to figure out how to get this thing work every time I open your app to use it with my device. ![]() I have been excited about using this device since I got it almost two years ago and couldn’t use it because it never supported MacOS until now. Know I can’t even get the app to recognize the device and my computer show it hooked up. ![]() i was on version 2.3.2 then i am new to record sound using Audacity so i have to try this and tried that ( i think i am still have to get it right. I was trying to record sound generated from MS word Read out loud for use in my youtube creation. I close the app down and start over and it will work for another one to two recordings and stop reading the device. Now i had the latest Version of Audacity 2.4.2 installed. I have done this and I can quit the app and get to work to maybe one or two records from it reading the device and then I get the error popping up again. Try “Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices”, then check that you have the correct Recording and Playback devices selected in the Device Toolbar. ![]() Any other suggestions?Ĭheck that the USB lead is securely connected at both ends. ![]() I clicked on the microphone and Audacity is already on for using the mike. Seeing the comment above, I went to my Mac privacy settings. I have the same problem and tried everything I knew to try. ![]()
